Started in 1995 by Dr Madan Kataria, Laughter Yoga is a combination of laughter exercises with yogic breathing.
Sessions start with gentle warm-up techniques which include stretching, chanting, clapping and body movement. Laughter is initially simulated by laughter exercises whilst maintaining eye contact with others and releasing childlike playfulness.
Laughter exercises are interspersed with breathing exercises and gentle movement. The session concludes with a guided meditation and relaxation exercise.
You feel healthier, happier and more alive.
Laughter is the best medicine is a well-known saying and it really is.
So why is it good to laugh?
When we laugh we might be aware of the physical movements in our body, our diaphragm and chest tighten and we push air out of our lungs.
There is also changes within our body that are not visible. Scientific studies consistently support the fact that when we laugh we produce health enhancing hormones and decreases stress hormones. Laughter is also a natural social connector.
As we get older we tend to leave our laughter to chance so we are missing out on all the benefits.
This is where we at Laughter andLife can help you either in an individual basis or as part of a group.
At our laughter which typically last for an hour we practice Laughter Yoga. We start with yogic breathing and clapping, followed by laughter exercises, eye contact, and lots of self-induced belly laughter interspersed with yogic breathing and clapping. There is a relaxation session at the end.
You feel less stressed as when you do deep belly laughter your feel good hormones rise and stress hormones reduces.
As well be practicing deep belly breathing expanding our diaphragm, moving and stretching. Laughter Yoga is a very gentle aerobic exercise.
